"Incident in Greenville, '47"
|
When Cobb bumped into Jackson at Joe's liquor store in Greenville (April, 1947), does anybody know if Cobb and Grantland Rice were on their way TO or FROM the Masters' Tournament? And where was Rice going? I would assume he drove (or took the train) to the tournament to cover it, then return to NYC. Why and when and where was Cobb with him? Many thanks, Jim Bennett James W, Bennett |

Jim, Rice and Cobb were big hunting buddies, and Rice often visited Cobb in Georgia to engage in this pastime. It has always been my understanding that they were returning from the Masters, and were then heading on to Royston GA to do some hunting. This isn't as out-of the way as it seems, since getting to Royston from Augusta would be about the same distance traveling through the upstate of SC as it would going directly through GA. Hope this helps. Take care, Tom Perry Tom Perry |
